Bassins of Lights : info and guided tour

Introduction to Bassins des Lumières

Located in Bordeaux’s former submarine base, Bassins des Lumières is an immersive digital art centre that has become one of the city’s most noteworthy cultural venues. The address, Imp. Brown de Colstoun, places it in the Bassins à flot district, north of Bordeaux, near the Bassin à flot no. 1.

The site occupies a vast concrete complex built during the Second World War to house submarines. This military heritage has been repurposed as an exhibition space, where the massive architecture, large volumes and presence of water create a spectacular setting for monumental projections. The venue is now associated with immersive art and heritage exhibitions.

Bassins des Lumières is renowned for its projection system on enormous surfaces, enhanced by the reflections in the water basins. This staging gives the works on display a special dimension and highlights the exceptional scale of the base. Visitors come to see enveloping digital creations and the venue’s unique atmosphere.
