Modena Cathedral is the city’s major religious building, located on Corso Duomo, in the heart of the historic center. Started at the end of the 11th century, the cathedral is one of the most important examples of Romanesque architecture in Italy. Its construction is associated with the architect Lanfranco and the sculptor Wiligelmo, whose work left a lasting mark on the façade and the monument’s earliest decorative reliefs.

The light marble façade immediately draws the eye with its balance and highly expressive sculptures. Inside, the restrained space highlights the Romanesque structure, the vaults, and the liturgical elements.
