Es Baluard : info and guided tour

Introduction to Es Baluard

Es Baluard is the contemporary art museum of Palma de Mallorca, housed in the former Sant Pere bastion, built into the city’s historic walls. The building combines military architecture with contemporary volumes, giving the site a strong identity in the heart of Palma.

The museum is located on Plaça de la Porta de Santa Catalina, in the centre of Palma, very close to the urban front that links the old town to the port. Its setting on the former fortifications makes it an important landmark for understanding the evolution of the historic landscape of the Balearic capital.

Inside, Es Baluard presents a modern and contemporary art collection focused on the Balearic Islands, Spain, and international artists. The exhibition spaces showcase paintings, sculptures, photographs, and other artistic forms in a route designed to interact with the site’s architecture.

From the terraces and some of the museum’s openings, visitors can see the walls, the city, and the surroundings of Palma, linking the visit to its urban context. Es Baluard thus works as a place where contemporary art meets a defensive heritage preserved within the historic fabric of Mallorca.
