Overview of Lake Titicaca

Lake Titicaca stretches across the border between Peru and Bolivia, and the city of Puno, on its Peruvian shore, serves as the main gateway to this vast Andean body of water. Located at more than 3,800 meters above sea level, it is known as one of the highest navigable lakes in the world.

Around Puno, the lakeside landscape is defined by the floating islands of the Uros, built from totora, an aquatic reed that grows abundantly in the region.
