Mount Igueldo Funicular : info and guided tour

Introduction to Mount Igueldo Funicular

The Mount Igueldo Funicular connects the city of San Sebastián with the summit of Igueldo hill, above La Concha Bay. This iconic installation provides quick access to a viewpoint famous for its views over the Cantabrian Sea, the coastline and the whole of Donostia. It is one of the city’s most recognizable landmarks.

Opened at the beginning of the 20th century, this funicular is part of the development of mountain leisure and urban panoramas in San Sebastián. Its short but steep route reflects engineering designed for the terrain. The site has kept its role as a means of reaching Mount Igueldo while also becoming an attraction in its own right.

The architecture of the original station and the cars gives the site an old-world charm, enhanced by its integration into the hillside landscape. At the top, Mount Igueldo also hosts a historic amusement park, making the funicular a gateway to a place for walks, leisure and views over the Basque coast.

The site is best known for the ride itself, short and spectacular, and for the panorama waiting at the top. From the summit, visitors can see La Concha Bay, Santa Clara Island and the sea horizon. This combination of transport, scenery and urban heritage explains its strong fame.
