Old Botanical Garden : info and guided tour

Introduction to Old Botanical Garden

Hamburg’s Old Botanical Garden is located on Dammtordamm, on the edge of Planten un Blomen park, in a central area of the city near the Inner Alster. This historic botanical garden is now part of Hamburg’s urban landscape and offers a quiet green space in the middle of the busy streets of the city centre.

The site still reflects its botanical purpose through its broad lawns, planted beds and mature trees. Although many visitors come here for a break in the Dammtor district, the place retains the character of a former study garden, with a landscape layout that highlights the diversity of plants and the openness of the space.

From the Old Botanical Garden, the contrast between the vegetation, the buildings in the city centre and the nearby gardens of Planten un Blomen is easy to see. The place is appreciated for its peaceful paths, changing light through the seasons and its place in an urban setting where nature and the city sit close together.
