Pidurangala Rock : info and guided tour

Introduction to Pidurangala Rock

Pidurangala Rock is a spectacular rock formation located in Sigiriya, in central Sri Lanka. It rises above the surrounding plain and offers a remarkable viewpoint over the famous Lion Rock fortress, visible from its summit. The site attracts visitors for both its landscape and the climbing experience it offers.

The place is also known for its ancient Buddhist monastery, of which only ruins remain today at the foot of the rock and on its slopes. Religious features, including a large reclining Buddha, recall the spiritual role of the site. This monastic heritage gives Pidurangala an important historical and cultural dimension.

The path to the summit follows stairs, rocky trails, and steeper sections before reaching the ridge. At the top, the panorama opens onto forests, villages, and above all Sigiriya Rock, seen in a quieter and less crowded setting. This view is what makes the site so famous.
