Overview of Planty

Planty is the ring of public gardens that surrounds Kraków’s historic center in Poland, on the site of the former medieval fortifications. Set around the Old Town, this large linear park creates a shaded walking route that is popular with both locals and visitors. Its layout follows almost exactly the line of the old city walls.

Developed in the 19th century after the gradual demolition of the walls, Planty transformed a defensive space into a green belt. The park is made up of paths, lawns, mature trees and small flowerbeds, with a continuous layout linking several areas of central Kraków. Today, this urban promenade is one of the city’s most recognizable landscapes.

This place is famous for its views of nearby landmarks, including churches, historic facades and gates leading into the Old Town.
