Overview of the Sahara

The Sahara in Merzouga refers to the gateway to the great dunes of Erg Chebbi, in the Hassilabied area. The landscape is marked by sand hills with shifting tones, shaped by the wind, creating an almost endless sense of space between the sky and the desert. The site is located in southeastern Morocco, close to the Algerian border.

Around Merzouga, the Sahara takes the form of a very open desert environment, where the dunes dominate the view and the light quickly transforms the colors of the sand.
