Skala of La Kasbah : info and guided tour

Presentation of Skala de La Kasbah

The Skala de la Kasbah is one of the most emblematic landmarks in Essaouira, on Morocco’s Atlantic coast. This fortified platform borders the old medina and offers a direct view of the city’s defensive role, designed to protect its seafront. Its elevated position also makes it a much-appreciated viewpoint.

The site stands out for its stone ramparts, aligned cannons, and sweeping views over the ocean. The skala is part of the fortification system that shaped the history of Essaouira, a port city long oriented toward trade and defense. The whole site gives a clear picture of the city’s military architecture.

The walk is known for its simple, powerful atmosphere, between sea, wind, and ancient stonework. Visitors especially notice the cannons facing the Atlantic, the thick parapets, and the views over the harbor and the rooftops of the medina. It is one of the most photographed sites in Essaouira.
