Overview of Banys Àrabs

The Banys Àrabs in Palma are one of the few surviving remains from the city’s Islamic period. Located in the historic center, this small heritage site is best known for its former steam bath, which reflects the urban customs and bathing culture of old Madîna Mayurqa.

The site stands out for its main room, covered by a dome pierced with oculi, supported by reused columns and horseshoe arches. This simple stone architecture evokes the medieval baths of Muslim influence found around the Mediterranean. The intimate space is surrounded by a garden that highlights the ruins.

Although much of the original complex has been lost, the Banys Àrabs remain famous for their unique atmosphere, part archaeological remains and part place for a walk. The bath room, ancient columns and masonry are especially notable, still making it possible to read the building’s layout.
