Introduction to Fisherman’s Bastion

Fisherman’s Bastion is one of Budapest’s most iconic landmarks, on Castle Hill, at Budapest 1014. Despite its medieval fortress appearance, it is above all a panoramic and decorative terrace, designed to showcase the view of the Danube, the Parliament, and the historic heart of the city.

Built in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, the complex draws inspiration from neo-Romanesque architecture with its arches, turrets, and bright galleries. Its name recalls the former fishermen’s quarter that defended this section of the ramparts. Today, the site is admired for its elegant lines and monumental atmosphere.

Fisherman’s Bastion is famous for its seven turrets, often associated with the seven Magyar tribes, and for its viewpoints, among the most photographed in Budapest.
