Introduction to Peine del Viento XV

Peine del Viento XV is one of the most famous sculptures in San Sebastian, installed at the western end of La Concha Bay, near Mount Igueldo. This work by Basque artist Eduardo Chillida engages directly with the Atlantic Ocean, the rocks and the coastal winds, in a setting that has become an iconic part of the cityscape.

The sculpture is part of Chillida’s Peines del Viento series, created for this site exposed to the force of the sea. Here, the corten steel blends into the natural stone and seems anchored to the coast. The ensemble combines several monumental pieces fixed to the rocks, in a sober and powerful composition that immediately draws the eye.

The site is renowned for the strong connection it creates between art and landscape. Depending on sea conditions, the waves and wind change the way the work is perceived, creating a different experience with every visit.
