Introduction to Tempio di Giunone (Tempio D)

The Tempio di Giunone, also called Tempio D, is located in the archaeological site of the Valley of the Temples, in Agrigento, Sicily. Visible from Strada Provinciale 4, it is one of the city’s best-known Greek remains and contributes to the historical renown of the monumental complex.

Despite its traditional name, the temple is generally attributed to Hera, the Greek goddess equated with Juno by the Romans. Built in ancient Greece, it illustrates the Doric architecture of the sanctuaries of Agrigento, with a spectacular location on a ridge overlooking the surrounding landscape.

The monument mainly preserves its foundations, a few columns, and fragments of the entablature, which still make it possible to discern its original layout.
